I Challenge You: Encouragement

A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting in one of my literature classes before class started. I heard a girl compliment another girl which almost caused her to cry because it touched her so much. That event got me thinking. There are so many people in the world that rarely or never hear words of encouragement. I want to change this.

I’m going to start running a series called “I Challenge You.” I’m not going to set up a specific time I’ll post these, but I’ll do them periodically throughout the year. Your challenge this week is to go out and encourage three people who aren’t your family. God calls us to encourage one another.

Opportunities present themselves all the time. One just has to be on the lookout for them. Buying coffee? Complement the person who serves you on something that catches your eye. See someone who isn’t looking like they have it all together, complement them. The smallest bit of encouragement can make the world of difference. God can take our encouragement and blow it up to be grand.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)

It is a sign that we are not doing our jobs when so many people in this world are hopeless and lacking encouragement. God never fails in his part of the work. It is our duty to live up to our end of the deal. Go forth and encourage like there’s no tomorrow. Have the faith of a mustard seed and let your spirit grow with God. Through Him, there is nothing that can’t be achieved.
