Drug of Choice

Which drug are you addicted to?  Now, when I ask this question there are a number of you that can answer easily and others who deny that you are addicted to anything much less a drug.  Most people take a drug every single day of their adult life…Caffeine.  A drug is defined as the following:

A drug is any substance other than food, that when inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed, absorbed via a patch on the skin or dissolved under the tongue causes a physiological change in the body.

Drugs can help many people as well as hurt and destroy many others.  Doctors prescribe medications daily that improve the quality of life for countless people.  But with the same legal drugs millions of people abuse the very same substance used to improve life and it begins to destroy their lives and possibly the lives of the people that they love.

But let’s sidestep the obvious don’t abuse drugs and stop using illegal drugs talk that we have all heard since elementary school and look for a different kind of drug.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Renew your mind with a heavenly drug daily.  We often hear the the verse…So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God, but do we really understand it?  God wants every part of your day to be filled with Him for his honor and glory.  That 20 min drive to work that we use to sing along to Katy Perry could instead be used to listen to the inspiration of God through a podcast.  That difficult boss that is on your back day in and day out may be your opportunity to remember where God called you from and a reminder to show his love to a difficult world.

We are so quick to say we need to relax and take time for ourselves, and this is all well and good and definitely has a time and place.  But do we really have time to take every evening for ourselves?  There is a lost world out there and we really feel that our evenings  spent watching Vanna flip over letters is the best use of our time?  Plug into your drug.  Hook up with the Holy spirit and read the Bible, a book to strengthen your christian walk and if you are feeling super adventurous get out and go somewhere people are.  Invite them to the church that you enjoy and feel God’s presence.

But like any drug this one will cost you.  You will have to give up a life that would amount to nothing.  You may have to give up so called friends that will abandon you once you sell out to this addiction.  There is no promise of safe with this lifestyle, but there is always a promise of worth it.  You may give up thing, friends, family and preferences that you thought you couldn’t possibly live without, but with a little distance and time between you and them, you will understand that Jesus is worth it all.

God’s presence should be a drug that we are addicted to.  Something that we can not live a second without.  There is without a doubt an effect that the Holy Spirit has on the body.  A feeling that is like no other.  It can take the worst day to a day of unbelievable joy.

So , i ask once more…Which drug are you addicted to?
